2008 William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award: The Short List
Details of the six short listed books for the prestigious award.
The shortlist for the 2008 William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award has been announced. The six shortlisted books, (alphabetical by author) are:
- John Carlin - Playing The Enemy
- Janie Hampton - The Austerity Olympics
- Rowan Simons - Bamboo Goalposts
- Marcus Trescothick - Coming back to Me: The Autobiography
- Jeremy Whittle - Bad Blood
- Jonathan Wilson - Inverting the Pyramid
I'm hugely pleased to say that the two titles I singled out from the longlist as being poor didn't make it onto the shortlist- there's nothing like ruining your credibility by picking out two duffers only for them to make the cut - and whilst I'm slightly surprised Ed Smith's musings didn't make it, the remainder pretty much pick themselves.
I don't think you need look too far beyond John Carlin's Playing the Enemy as being the likely winner. While the judging panel is capable of pulling the odd surprise - Angry White Pyjamas anyone? - this one looks nailed on to me.
The winner will be announced on Monday 24th November.
