Weekend Review - Mon 18th June

Lance, Landis and Barry Bonds

It's perhaps no surprise that two big cycling books published in the States are generating significant publicity. Landis's title is his latest weapon in clearing his name and that really kicks in now with the book's release, interviews with newspapers such as the LA Times and a promotional tour of the major TV shows. SI has a big feature on the forthcoming book on Lance Armstrong by David Walsh. Still no news of UK releases for either title.

Also in the States, there's a comprehensive round up of summer sports books in the Washington Post. Registration is required for the site, and although that's a pain, it is free and they don't bombard you with spam. Wish that they'd just drop the registration requirement altogether, but that's a different whinge.

There's a nice appreciation of David Halberstam's work in the NY Times. It perhaps focuses more on his war reporting and the overall contribution he made to literature rather than specifically focus on his sports books, but it's worth reading nevertheless. As our his books if you've never taken a look. Elsewhere, there's a review of It's Not About the Truth on SportsBiz. I think this title could be one of those that generates a significant amount of coverage.

It was a little quiet in terms of UK reviews this week. There's a review of Simon Wilde's portait of Shane Warne in The Telegraph and Will Buckley also has a piece on Barry Bonds in The Observer. That's certainly not going to be the only piece on Bonds as he closes in on Hank Aaron's Home Run record.

There's a quick review of All Round Genius in The Observer and there's an interview with Dee Caffari in The Independent. Her account of her record-breaking circumnavigation is published in September.

That's about it this week. We'll have the highlights of July's releases available shortly.
