Athlon, The Homestead Grays and Sports Blogs
A random collection of bits and pieces that have caught our attention....
The first of this year's Baseball preview magazines has arrived into stock. We're pleased to say that Athlon Baseball 2007 is now available and should shortly be followed by The Sporting News, Street and Smith's and Lindy's - with the possible addition of couple of others.
Athlon Sports celebrate their 20th anniversary of baseball publications with this edition. I'm pleased to say that it looks like it's up to their usual standard and is as comprehensive and authoritative as we've come to expect. It features team by team profiles, fantasy selections as well as profiles and opinion pieces.
If you're still feeling nostalgic about the 2006 season, you may also be interested to know that we've got a few copies of 2006 World Series Program left. They're now available at 20% off the regular price.
Some Friday afternoon randomness!
Interesting piece about the Homestead Grays over on MLB.com. To give full credit where it's due, we picked up that article from the guys over at SportsFilter.
Also in passing should mention a nice skit on infamous Hardaway comments on SportsPickle. Not claiming that it's earth shatteringly funny, but made me chuckle and showed up the ludicrousness of that line of thinking and that's a good enough reason for a nod.
On the subject of sports blogs, it's about time I gave a little nod to sportblog at The Guardian. There's a good (and increasing) range of subjects discussed and whilst there's a group of regular contributors who can, how shall we say, be quite passionate, there's normally a good, lively and well informed debate to be had.
I think the Guardian were the first of the UK's newspapers to really get to grips with the web and for me at least, they're way ahead of the others when it comes to utilising what the web has to offer and engaging with their readership. Today they're featuring three articles from the site's bloggers as part of a blogger-turned-journo competition.
Finally, did anyone else recoil in horror at this picture? Not saying that I wanted them in standard we're-bouncing-up-and-down-because-we've-won-a-cup-type pose, but don't think it had to be quite such a literal interpretation of we're having tea with the Queen. Not an anti-gooner rant (far from it believe me) but what's that all about? Still, Jens looks at home.....
