"Sunderland began to get to grips with the game in the last fifteen minutes, but I doubt very much if they had ever played a team quite like ours. There was not a thought in our heads about keeping the ball close, holding on to it and playing for time. Whenever we got the ball we hit it hard for one of the corner flags at Sunderland's end, and if the flags looked too far away, well, the back row of the stand would do. 'Don't spoil a good game' said Len Shackleton after I had once put the ball into the crowd! It was life and death to us."
Alec Stock, Yeovil Player-Manager after the Yeovil v. Sunderland match in 1949.
