While a Haynes manual may provide every snippet of info you're ever likely to need for any type of bike repair, this book is a lot easier to digest for your average commuter type repair problem, and thorough at that.
Provides a great background to this greatest and simplest of modern inventions and stresses the longevity and (relatively) slow changing dynamic of bike development.

It's A Fact!
At 6 foot 7 Kevin Francis was the tallest player in the football league. And so said every newspaper article and programme feature written about him throughout his career. He's now a long distance lorry driver.
