From Word of Sport:

Cricket, naturally, took second place in the aftermath of the tragic and untimely death of Surrey's Ben Hollioake. As a valediction to their friend and colleague, Surrey won the 2002 County Championship. This detailed and moving account is a tribute to their achievements.

From the Publisher:

The 2002 season couldn't have started on a lower note for Surrey, with the untimely death of Ben Hollioake in a car crash in Australia on March 23rd still fresh in everybody's mind.

Having been plunged into a state of shock and mourning by news of the tragedy, the Club had immediately announced that the new campaign, and any trophies won, would be dedicated to Ben's memory.

Some truly dazzling cricket followed as the players responded in fine style to regain the County Championship title that had been surrendered to Yorkshire in 2001, producing a string of outstanding individual and team performances that saw success confirmed on 7th September with two matches still to play. While the triumph could never make up for the tragedy, an emotionally-charged season at least ended on a high note with the most significant domestic trophy deservedly ending up in Surrey's hands for the third time in four seasons.

Having followed the team throughout the summer, Trevor Jones has encapsulated the many high and low points of the campaign in 'From Tragedy To Triumph', the latest in his series of books recording Surrey's recent successes.

The author's highly detailed session-by-session, day-by-day reporting is enhanced by the candid comments of the players, given during a series of exclusive interviews, while twenty-four pages of excellent and varied colour photographs illustrate some of the campaign's most memorable moments.

This moving account of a dramatic season will be a welcome addition to any true Surrey fan's library.

It's A Fact!

Barry White was the arranger of 'Harlem Shuffle' by Bob & Earl...not strictly a sporting fact, but an interesting one nonetheless!
